Vision Comes First: Seeing Your Future Through God’s Eyes
“Clarity brings focus, and focus leads to freedom.
If you’ve ever felt stuck, uncertain, or overwhelmed trying to figure out what’s next in your life or business, you’re not alone or without direction. You just need vision! Not just a thrown-together dream board or checklist, but a God-designed vision that aligns your life with your God-designed purpose.
Today, we’re laying the foundation for freedom by discovering what it means to see your life through God’s vantage point.
It's time for you to seek the Lord and “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, so that he may run who reads it” (Habakkuk 2:2).
Why Vision Is Foundational, Not Optional
Vision is more than an idea; it’s a directive. Without a vision, we drift and can do whatever feels right in the moment. Proverbs 29:18 makes it plain: "Where there is no vision, the people perish.”
When you lack vision:
-
You say “yes” to things you should say "no" to because they don’t serve you well.
-
You get pulled in too many directions, which can cause unnecessary stress, overwhelm, and burnout.
-
You survive, but you don’t thrive. You're existing in life, barely making it.
But when you have a vision and your vision is aligned with heaven, everything shifts positively. You gain clarity, courage, and the confidence to show up in your God-designed purpose.
Vision gives context to your pain and meaning to your movement. "And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose" (Romans 8:28, AMP). Every setback or struggle becomes a needful part of your journey, even though it doesn't seem like it in the moment.
Let’s look at two powerful examples in scripture where God gave life-altering vision to two ordinary yet called people:
1. Abraham (Genesis 15)
When God told Abraham he’d be the father of many nations, He didn’t just say it; He showed him the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. God communicates using visions, pictures, and promises.
God-given vision stretches us beyond what’s reasonable so we can pursue what’s supernatural.
2. Paul (Acts 9)
Before Paul became the apostle we admire, he was Saul, zealous, religious, yet dangerously off-track. After an encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus, Paul was first blinded physically and then given a vision spiritually.
God will sometimes close your natural eyes so you can finally see what He’s been trying to show you in the Spirit.
With both of these examples, God gave them an assignment, which was their vision, and then showed them supernaturally what the vision meant and what needed to happen. God wants to do the same with you. There is something you're meant to do, and when you take the necessary time, however long that needs to be, and allow the Lord to show you His vision for your life and business, He will. Abraham and Paul are truly examples, not exceptions. Remember, your purpose will be your purpose and not someone else's.
Practical Steps to Clarify Your God-Designed Vision
So, how do you start receiving and building a vision that aligns with your God-given purpose?
Step 1: Reflect in Prayer
Start by asking:
-
“God, what do You see for me in this season?”
-
“What’s the assignment for my skills, gifts, talents, experience, and calling?”
Clarity starts in God’s presence. Do not rush the process. God is not in a hurry; He’s intentional.
Step 2: Journal What’s Working and What’s Not
Next, you'll write down:
-
What’s currently flowing with ease and grace in your life?
-
What feels forced, heavy, or out of alignment?
Create two lists:
-
“Aligned with my purpose”
-
“Distracting or draining”
God often speaks through peace and unrest. Pay attention to everything. Make sure not to confuse unrest with I just don't want to. Sometimes, God calls us to do uncomfortable things that stretch us. Make sure to maintain communication with the Lord during this process. You may initially feel like something is forced, but it's really in alignment with where God desires for you to be, and He is trying to grow and stretch you so you're ready to walk in your purpose.
Step 3: Set SMARTER Goals
A vision without a roadmap and action is just a wish. Use this SMARTER framework to create your roadmap and action steps so you can more readily move toward your vision:
-
Specific
-
Measurable
-
Achievable
-
Relevant
-
Time-bound
-
Elevating
-
Realigned with your God-designed purpose
Example: “In the next 30 days, I’ll complete my business mission statement and start working with a coach for accountability.”
To complete the "E" and "R," after 30 days, you'll evaluate your progress and see if anything needs to be realigned. This kind of goal activates your vision with clarity and commitment.
Let's Get 'Er Done!
I want to challenge you today. Here's the task:
-
Identify one area in your life where you need vision.
-
Bring it to God in prayer over the next seven days.
-
Write one to three SMARTER goals and post them somewhere visible.
Create a roadmap of action steps for your goals so you know exactly what you need to do to achieve them.
-
Review, do the necessary actions, and speak life over your goals every single day.
Habakkuk 2:2 wasn’t just about writing; it was about running. Your vision is fuel for forward movement. It's time for you to move into what the Lord has called you to do. That starts with knowing what you're supposed to do and then making bold moves. This is just the beginning. Your future requires your focus. When you get God’s vision for your life, distractions lose their power, and doubt has no place. Don’t wait for the perfect conditions; those don't exist. It's time to start now, with God’s help, wisdom, and clarity in hand (grab the Word).
Affirmation of the Day:
“I seek the Lord, and I see with clarity the path God has designed for me. I do not walk in confusion. I walk in vision, faith, and focus.”
